Ho (V/R), Aug. 29, GNA – A regional development monitoring team led by Mr Ben-Habib Siki Abibu, the Volta Regional Political Coordinator at the Presidency, has inspected several government-funded and legacy projects in the Keta Municipality and North Dayi Constituency.
The inspection was to assess the progress of the projects, identify implementation challenges and ensure that completed facilities are used.
The exercise, which forms part of an ongoing monitoring tour of development projects across the Volta Region, covered infrastructure in the areas of education, healthcare, water, agriculture, technical and vocational education, ICT and local economic development.
In the Keta Municipality, the team inspected the 24-Hour Economy Market Project along the Akatsi-Abor corridor, which commenced in July and is expected to be completed within 30 months.
The facility is expected to include lockable shops, market sheds, a police unit, fire service facility and health centre, among other supporting infrastructure.
At the Tsiame Senior High School, the delegation inspected ongoing and completed projects, including an 18-unit three-storey classroom block, an ultra-modern dining hall with kitchen and stores, staff accommodation, a girls’ dormitory, and bungalows for the Headmistress and Headmaster.
The team also inspected a two-storey administration block, which had been abandoned for some time but had been revived and was nearing completion, with the delegation calling for completed facilities to be commissioned and put to use without delay.
Other projects inspected included a completed three-unit classroom block at the Atsiavi Atime M.A. Basic School; and the Farmer Service Centre at Dorjee, which is expected to be completed in November to serve the Southern Zone of the Volta Region.
The delegation also visited the Anyako Community Water Extension Project, which provides 15 standpipes and institutional connections and has been fitted with a smart metering system to improve monitoring, accountability and the sustainability of the facility.
Healthcare projects inspected included the Seva CHPS Compound and the Nyiravase Tengekorpe CHPS Compound, both of which had reached about 90 per cent of completion and included accommodation for health personnel.
The team further inspected a three-unit classroom block at Aborlorve Nolorfi and a six-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities at the Anlo-Afiadenyigba R.C. Basic School, which was also about 90 per cent complete.
In the North Dayi Constituency, the monitoring team inspected 14 projects aimed at improving access to education, healthcare, water, ICT infrastructure and technical and vocational skills development.
The projects included infrastructure works at the Anfoega Senior High School, Aveme STEM Senior High School, Botoku TVET and Vakpo Senior High Technical School, comprising dormitories, dining halls, classroom blocks, science laboratories, staff accommodation and administrative facilities.
The team also inspected completed and ongoing CHPS compounds at Tsrukpe Tota, Anfoega Akukorme and Anfoega Denui, as well as the Mahama CARE Free Primary Health Care Post at Aveme Amanfrom.
The health post provides services including antenatal care, delivery services, immunisation, malaria treatment and health education.
Other facilities inspected included ICT infrastructure at Aveme Beme, a three-unit Kindergarten block at Aveme Resettlement and water extension projects involving the installation of 1,000-litre Polytanks in seven communities.
At the Botoku TVET, the delegation observed ongoing efforts to transform the institution into a boarding technical and vocational education facility through the construction of a 12-unit classroom block, dining hall and multipurpose classroom block, as well as the provision of 350 pieces of furniture.
The monitoring team noted that while several projects had been completed, some were awaiting formal handover and commissioning, while others required the completion of outstanding works before they could be fully utilised.
The delegation, therefore, urged contractors and relevant authorities to address outstanding challenges, expedite completion and handover processes, and ensure that the projects delivered their intended benefits to the people.
The exercise highlighted progress in the expansion of social and economic infrastructure across the Keta Municipality and North Dayi Constituency, with the projects expected to improve access to quality education, healthcare, potable water, skills development and other essential services.
