Keta (VR), Dec 19, GNA-The Keta Municipal Assembly, under the leadership of Mr Wisdom Seade, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has commenced fixing and rehabilitation of streetlights across various communities within the municipality.
The initiative, which began in November this year, after all assembly members received four streetlights each on behalf of their respective electoral areas and communities to improve the lighting system.
Mr Seth Azaglo Tey, the Assembly Member of Dzolukope Amugo electoral area, who was the leader of the initiative, said that a total of 250 streetlights were expected to be fixed across the municipality to enhance safety and visibility.
“Today, the MCE has taken an additional bold step to extend the fixing of streetlights along major roads within the municipality, and we are tasking to take charge of the installation and the replacement of the damaged lights,” he said.
He stressed that the effort was aimed at reducing road accidents and improving security at night while selected Senior High Schools (SHSs), market centres, among important places within the municipality have also benefited from the important project.
He said the municipal assembly has expressed its heartfelt appreciation to the President John Dramani Mahama led government and the Municipal Chief Executive for their timely and impactful streetlight project intervention which would greatly improve safety and quality of life in the communities.
“Fixing streetlights is crucial for brightening the communities and curbing theft, a brighter environment contributes to overall safety and security of everybody.”
Mr Azaglo Tey explained that the project demonstrated the assembly’s commitment to community development and improving the lives of residents and pledged that the team of other Assembly members overseeing the exercise, would ensure the success of the project.
He said Keta would get brighter and safer for all to reflect on the positive impact of the streetlight rehabilitation exercise while the initiative was also expected to have a lasting impact on the communities to enhance overall quality of life.
He said electoral areas such as Tetekope-Vui, Keta Central, Dzelukope Amugo and Afugo, Kedzikope, Abutiakope among other areas would benefit from the streetlight’s rehabilitation and installation project to better the lives of the public.
With the exercise underway, some residents who spoke to the GNA were optimistic about a safer and more secure future for Keta after the initiative to boost businesses at night to improve the local economy.
