Harley Reed drives Ghana’s ESG readiness with capacity building programme for journalists, editors

Accra, Dec. 9, GNA – Harley Reed, a leading international professional services firm, has organised a capacity building training for journalists and editors on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) & Sustainability Reporting in Accra.

The one-day training seeks to enhance the capacity of journalists and media professionals to effectively understand, analyse, and report on ESG and their sustainability issues.

Madam Dorcas Aba Annan, Group Manager, Marketing and Communications, Harley Reed, said the organisation recognised the crucial role journalists played in shaping narratives for society to make informed choices.

She said the media’s understanding and accurate reportage on ESG and Sustainability issues would help prevent the limited knowledge of the principles and reporting frameworks which had often led to underreporting or misrepresentation of sustainability issues.

“We aim to promote informed media engagement that fosters accountability and supports Ghana’s move towards mandatory ESG reporting by 2027,” she said.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the Group Manager, said, the media’s participation and coverage would support the awareness creation around ESG and sustainability reporting.

Globally, ESG-driven economies have proven to be more resilient, socially cohesive and attractive to investors and in Ghana, it is reported that while many organisations are beginning to align with global ESG standards, there remains a significant gap in how these issues are communicated to the public.

It is against this background that Harley Reed organised this training to empower journalists and editors to be instrumental in stimulating a national conversation around ESG and sustainability reporting.

The training brought together journalists and editors from leading media organizations across Ghana, including Ghana News Agency (GNA), Media General, GhOne TV, Metro TV and Multimedia.

Madam Cima Sholotan, General Manager, Advisory Services, Harley Reed Nigeria, Facilitator for the training, said, ESG over the years created company value and it was imperative that Ghanaian companies tapped into such value.

“We are also calling on SMEs to join the journey and increased their awareness to help improve their businesses through the compliance and reporting aspect of the ESG,” she said.

Madam Sholotan said the media had been a platform for advocacy and it was important for the media to build their capacity to create personal awareness, get companies to be aware and make the awareness a call for action.

This initiative reinforces Harley Reed Ghana’s commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and sustainable business practices across multiple sectors.
