Gefia (V/R), Dec 28, GNA – The residents of Gefia in the Avenor Traditional Area in the Akatsi South Municipality in the Volta region, over the weekend, held a ground durbar of Chiefs and people to mark the 65th Gefia Denyigbanyaza in honour of the fallen heroes and heroines.
The well-attended colourful event, characterised by cultural displays, had the theme “Honouring Our Past, Building Our Future.”
In his keynote address, Mr Peter Aklasu, of the Akatsi Senior High Technical School, stated that honouring heroes and heroines promotes patriotism, moral responsibility, and continuity of national values.
When a society neglects this duty, it risks losing citizens’ sense of belonging and willingness to sacrifice for the common good.
Mr Victor Gbeku, the Chairman of the Gefia Central Development Committee, itemises the projects the Committee undertook during their four years in office, which include the provision of 50 mono desks, building of a three-seater KVIP, renovation of the school building, and the supply of educational material to the Gefia R.C. Basic School totaling GHS52,000.
Mr Gbeku added that the funds came from the annual Gefia Denyigbanyaza levy instituted three years ago, proceeds from festival celebrations, and individual special donations.
The Chairman of the festival, Torgbui Azibodzi III, Dufia of Agorve urged parents to defy all odds to provide their children with a better future through encouraging and supporting their education.
He added that children embody future engineers, doctors, lawyers, and ministers, and it is the collective responsibility to nurture and develop their potential.

Torgbui Azibodzi also pledged his support for Gefia’s development and the peaceful resolution of its chieftancy conflict, which is affecting its rapid development.
Torgbui Korbadzi III, Dufia of Gefia, in his address, remarked that “a society that does not honour its heroes and heroines is not worth dying for.”
”When we recognise the contributions and sacrifice of others, it fosters encouragement for growth and development,” he said.
Gefia Denyigbanyaza Celebration is an annual pilgrimage of the chiefs and people of Gefia.
According to the elders, the spirit of ‘Denyigbanyaza’ is a Spirit of Unity, Self-Reliance, Progress, and Development.
