Businesses in Obuasi urged to take advantage of the annual trade shows for growth

      Obuasi (Ash), Dec. 4, GNA – Business owners in Obuasi and its environs have been urged to show keen interest in the annual trade shows and take advantage of the opportunities to expand and grow.  

Mr Aboagye Ohene Adu, Board Chairman of the Obuasi Trade Show Consortium, organizers of the annual business fair, who made the call, said the initiative had significantly helped expand business opportunities in the area. 

Speaking at the launch of the 2025 Obuasi Trade Show, he commended AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine, for its consistent and substantial support, which was helping to diversify and strengthen the local economy. 

This year’s show will run from December 17 to December 20, this year at the Black park, near the Len Clay sports stadium in Obuasi. 

Initiated in 2019, under the AngloGold Ashanti three-year Social Management Plan, the trade show has grown from a simple exhibition, into a powerful economic development platform. 

Its success led to its continuation under the company’s 10-year Socio-Economic Development Plan. 

This year’s edition is being organized in partnership with the Obuasi Municipal Assembly, Obuasi East and Akrofuom district Assemblies, with support from AngloGold Ashanti, Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) and other key partners. 

Mr Ohene Adu pledged exciting business opportunity, saying valuable lessons from previous editions had shaped what promised to be the most impactful trade show yet. 

He emphasized that beyond the highly anticipated trade and exhibition activities, a wide range of exciting programmes had also been planned to make this year’s event truly memorable. 

 Mr Ohene Adu pointed out that, GEPA’s first-time participation was expected to significantly enhance exhibitor capacity in key areas such as product packaging, branding, and meeting global market standards. 

Mr Edmund Oduro Agyei, Community Relations Manager of AngloGold Ashanti, described the Trade Show as a major catalyst for Obuasi’s economic transformation.  

He reaffirmed the Mine’s commitment to supporting the sustainability of the initiative as part of efforts to diversify the local economy. 

Mr. Agyei highlighted the remarkable achievements of the Obuasi Trade Show (OTS) since its inception.  

These include, training of over 1,000 businesses, a direct investment of over GHS 1.8 million in MSME development, creation of 1,049 direct and indirect jobs and the establishment of 168 new businesses 

These milestones, he noted, demonstrated the significant impact of the OTS on Obuasi’s economic landscape. 

Mr Agyei encouraged residents and entrepreneurs to take full advantage of the trade show to enhance their businesses and contribute to Obuasi’s economic growth.
