Bosome Freho DCE cautions against sale of start-ups for PWDs

Asiwa (Ash), Dec. 8, GNA – Mr Charles Appiah-Kubi, District Chief Executive for Bosome Freho, has cautioned beneficiaries of the Disability Fund against the sale of start-up items provided to improve their livelihoods.

He said such acts defeated the rationale behind the allocation of a percentage of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) for the welfare of PWDs in various districts across the country.

Mr Appiah Kubi, who made the remarks during the presentation of start-up equipment to some PWDs at Asiwa, encouraged them to put the equipment to productive use to strengthen their economic independence.

He reminded the beneficiaries that the items were provided to empower them economically and should therefore be utilised effectively rather than trading them off for short-term gains.

The DCE highlighted the availability of the PWDs’ share of the DACF and encouraged them to take full advantage of these resources.

According to him, accessing the funds would enable them to sustain their economic activities and improve their quality of life.

Describing the initiative as laudable, Mr. Appiah-Kubi emphasised the need for all stakeholders to support it.

He underscored the importance of beneficiaries using the assistance provided to uplift themselves and contribute meaningfully to the district’s development.

He also urged PWDs to refrain from street begging, assuring them of the government’s commitment to providing opportunities that promoted their economic empowerment.

Mr. Frank Konadu Asare, the District Social Welfare and Community Development Director, encouraged the public to view disabilities as part of the community’s diversity.

Mr Konadu advised the beneficiaries to make good use of the assistance offered, noting that the support was a valuable opportunity for personal and economic growth.
