Bia West (WN/R), Dec. 22, GNA – The Bia West District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has intensified public education against corruption in selected schools within the district.
The campaign seeks to promote transparency and accountability, while encouraging students to speak out against corruption and related practices in their communities.
It is on the theme: “Uniting with Youth Against Corruption; Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity” and is supported by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the European Union (EU).
Mr Nkrumah Williams, the Bia West District NCCE Director, addressing students of Adjoafia Senior High School and Kwame Tawiah-Krom Basic School in separate engagements, described corruption as the abuse of entrusted power for personal gain.
He cited various forms of corruption, including extortion, nepotism, sextortion and conflict of interest.
Mr Williams said the sensitisation exercise was aimed at educating students on the dangers of corruption and the critical role young people could play in combating the menace.
He noted that empowering students through civic education strengthened democracy and deepened the fight against corruption.
Mr Williams urged the students to uphold the principles of honesty, reject corruption and become advocates for fairness and justice, saying, “Corruption undermines development; therefore, we urge all Ghanaians to join the fight.”

Mr Michael Bamfo, the Bia West District Officer of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), said corruption deprived the nation of development and basic infrastructure.
He encouraged the students to report corruption-related cases to the appropriate authorities without fear of victimisation.
Mr Bamfo added that when citizens stood for what was right in schools, families and communities, the country would experience positive growth.
