By Benjamin Asomah

Jinjini (Bono) Dec.08, GNA – The Berekum West District in the Bono Region has been ranked 10th in HIV/AIDS cases, with 60 new infections recorded in 2025, comprising 50 females and 10 males.

Madam Leticia Adutwuwaa, District Public Health Nurse, and HIV/AIDS Focal person disclosed this at the public awareness creation day as part of the 20 25 World AIDS Day at  Jinjini   in the Berekum West District.

He noted that the high number of female cases were attributed to routine screening in the area for pregnant women during antenatal care.

She emphasised that the district’s relatively low reported cases did not reflect the actual infection rate, but rather low testing rates among residents adding that many people were still hesitant to undergo HIV testing, despite having access to 13 health facilities in the district.

Mr Emmanuel Kwadwo, Health Promotion Officer, urged the public to get tested, seek early treatment, and avoid stigma stating that fear of testing is a major obstacle in combating the disease.

Mr Collins Asomah,  Berekum West District Chief Executive (DCE), expressed concern over the growing number of HIV cases among young people and committed to collaborating with the Health Directorate to address the issue.

He emphasised  on public education, stigma reduction, and HIV testing as key strategies to curb the spread of the virus.
