Adaklu Tsriefe (V/R), Dec. 23 GNA – The Adaklu district has over the past ten years recorded zero maternal deaths and worked hard to maintain the record in 2025.
Mr Mathew Adams Ayamba, the Adaklu District Director of Health Tuesday disclosed this to the Ghana in a telephone interview.
He stated that malaria and anemia were still prevalent in the district, but his outfit was doing everything possible to help reduce them.
The Director said these were being done through sensitisation in the various communities, educating lactating mothers and patients who visited the health facilities and sharing of insecticide treated mosquito nets.
He stated that the Adaklu district which had no district hospital has 18 health centres and Community Health Planning Services (CHPS) Compounds with only one Medical Officer who he said was stationed at the Health Centre at Adaklu Helekpe.
Mr Ayamba appealed to the government to upgrade the Health Centre into a Polyclinic.
He also appealed for the provision of more equipment and means of transport to help facilitate their work.
He entreated the government to as a matter of urgency complete the Agenda 111 hospital project at Adaklu Waya, which he said was about 70 per cent complete and would serve as the district hospital.
He hoped that if the health centre at Adaklu Helekpe was upgraded to a Polyclinic and the Agenda 111 project was also completed, more specialist nurses and others would be posted to the district to provide specialist services to the people.
He said it was worrying that the Adaklu district was taken out of deprived districts in the country it was affecting staff negatively as they were now denied the rural incentives which they were hitherto enjoying.
The Director also said as compared to staff working in deprived districts who were considered for promotion or study leave with pay after serving three years, those in the Adaklu districts were to serve for five years before enjoying those benefits.
He appealed to government to sponsor health staff to further their education to enable them to improve on their output.
Mr Ayamba assured his staff that if their indicators improved, they would get more government support.
He praised Mr Governs Kwame Agbodza, the Minister for Roads and Highways who is also the Member of Parliament for Adaklu for his unwavering support for the health sector in the district.
Mr Ayamba mentioned the provision of nurse’s quarters, infrastructure for the health facilities, and staff motivation as some of his support.
