Tema, Nov. 17, GNA – The Right Reverend Ebenezer Popeson, the Tema Diocesan Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, has called on the government, church members, and old students of the Tema Methodist Day Senior High School (MEDASS) to help uplift the image of the school.
Rt. Rev. Popeson, said MEDASS is the only senior high school for the Tema Diocese, and there was the need to put the school in good shape.
He was speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) during the induction service of the Very Rev. Emmanuel Ohene-Gyimah as the Secretary of Synod for the Tema Diocese.
He said the school has an infrastructure deficit making it unattractive, stating that “though teaching is going on well with good performance, the infrastructure is nothing to write home about due to that, most students preferred going to other senior high schools, which is a big worry.”
According to him, as the head of the diocese in Tema, the school has always been his problem, as he has always had it at heart to ensure that MEDASS comes at par with the other schools like Mfantsipim, Adisadel and the other well-known schools in the country.
He said even though the church has policies to enhance the educational department, including MEDASS, financial constraints are a problem hindering the channelling of resources to the school.
He said the church was not solely focused on the spiritual growth of the people, as it also holistically trains their minds through education and schools; therefore, it is very important for the school to have a very good ambiance and infrastructure to operate in order to attract more people.
The Very Rev. Ohene-Gyimah, the newly inducted Secretary of Synod for the Tema Diocese, gave the assurance to use his office to support the leadership to help the youth’s spiritual growth, stressing that drug abuse has become the norm of the day, and the church must not sit unconcerned and watch the youth go astray.
He also urged the youth to take the teachings of God seriously and strive for leadership positions within the church.
