Akwaboa (Ash) Sept. 18, GNA – Mr Mba Zechariah Alenbilla, District Chief Executive for Atwima Nwabiagya North district, has commissioned and handed over a Kindergarten and primary school blocks to the Nketia and Akwaboa communities in the Ashanti region.
These are the first school blocks ever constructed in the communities.
Children from the two communities had over the years, had to travel to nearby communities to attend school.
The projects were funded through the assembly share of the District Assemblies Common Fund.
Mr Allenbilla, addressing the chiefs and people during the ceremony, expressed the assembly’s readiness and commitment to ensure the development of the area, especially in education and other sectors.
He appealed for cooperation, unity, and support from the community members to enhance the speedy execution of developmental projects and programs that would benefit all residents.
He said, it was the plan and priority of President John Dramani Mahama and the government to provide social amenities at the grassroots for improved economic and social livelihoods through local government authorities in the country.
This, he said needed the full participation of traditional rulers, religious and political party leaders and other stakeholders at the local level for collaborative idea sharing, transparency, accountability, collective monitoring and effective execution.
He commended the residents for supporting and cooperating with the contractors to complete the project as scheduled.
The DCE however, cautioned against the act of smoking and defecating in classrooms and disclosed the plan of the District Security Committee (DISEC) to take stringent actions and measures to stop such acts.
He mentioned intensified police night school patrols, as a move to check, arrest, and prosecute persons particularly, the youth in such acts when they were caught.
Mr. Frank Duah Boateng, the District Director of Education, pledged to help post teachers to the school to make it operational as soon as possible and urged the people to register their children of school going age in the school.
He called for a collaborative maintenance and protection culture of the school block by community members and all Stakeholders.
Nana Kusi Agyapong Appau I, Akwaboahene commended the government for executing the projects and appealed for Junior High School (JHS) in addition to the commissioned primary block in the town to help salvage the children from walking long distances to Ntensere, Darbaa and Tabere basic schools.
He also appealed for a borehole and toilet facilities to make the children accessible to good water and sanitation.
