Mim, (Bono), Nov 25, GNA – Okofrobuor Dr Nana Yaw Agyei II, the Paramount Chief of the Mim Traditional Area in the Ahafo Region has called for the creation of a new district, to facilitate the speedy development of the area.
Describing it as overdue, he said Mim ought to be carved out of the Asunafo North Municipality, worrying that successive governments had failed to do so after numerous promises to the people.
Okofrobour Dr Agyei also called on the government to establish a university and to bring tertiary education to the doorstep of the people, saying it would greatly spur rapid socio-economic growth and development.
The Paramount Chief made the call when he addressed a durbar to climax the second edition of the ‘Mountuo Festival’ of the chiefs and people of Mim in the Asunafo North Municipality of the Region.
He said the people had started a fund-raising exercise for the construction of a university and called for government support.
Okofrobour Dr Agyei said a university and a district were their present needs, saying the entire people would be forever grateful to President John Dramani Mahama and his government.
“Mim deserves a district now,” he stated and called on the government to ensure that the area equally benefited from its share of the national cake, asking for more job opportunities for the teeming unemployed youth in the area.
Mr Armstrong Kusi, the Founder of the 7SM, a non-governmental organisation in the area noted that the size of the municipality was very large and thereby slowed development of Mim and its adjoining communities.
He said: “Mim has been advocating for a district and university for over 31 years now,” and appealed to the government to consider that and come to the aid of the people for the purpose of progressive development.
Mr Kusi added that Mim was a significant community in the Ahafo Region, with substantial forest products and gold reserves, and that as a district with a university these economic prospects could be unlocked, to accelerate sustainable development.
