Accra, Nov. 26, GNA— Nana Osei-Adjei, the New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament (MP) for New Juaben North, has called on the government to prioritize the establishment of the Women’s Development Bank, emphasizing the need for more resources to ensure its operationalization and accessibility to rural areas.
“Mr Speaker, the government must be interested in capital expenditure for the operationalization of the women’s development bank,” he said.
Commenting on the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy on the Floor of Parliament, Nana Osei-Adjei questioned the allocation of GH¢401 million for the regulator’s requirements.
The MP suggested that the government utilize existing structures, such as the over 1,300 state banks, to swiftly commence the women’s bank, rather than waiting to build or rent offices.
“Instead of getting infrastructure for the start, it should establish a desk at the over 1,300 state banks for the swift commencement of the women’s bank,” he proposed.
He also urged Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the Vice President, to champion the proper establishment of the women’s bank.
The MP’s call comes at a time when the government had met the regulator’s requirement of GH¢401 million for the impaired resources, but Nana Osei-Adjei insisted that more resources were needed to make the bank accessible to rural folks.
