Bibiani (WN/R), Nov. 25, GNA – Mr Ahmed Ibrahim, the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, has announced the government’s plan to establish sanitation courts within chiefs’ palaces nationwide.

The initiative, he said, was aimed at enhancing environmental cleanliness and promoting discipline in waste management.

The Minister, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Banda, made the announcement at the 2025 Elluo Festival durbar, held at Bibiani.

Mr Ibrahim said chiefs must be empowered and collaborate with district assemblies to sanction sanitation offenders to help ensure a cleaner environment for all.

The Minister underscored the crucial role traditional leaders played in promoting communal labour and environmental protection and advocated for their authority to be restored in sanitation matters.

He explained that establishing a sanitation court in the chiefs’ palaces would help instill discipline in the people, promote sustainable waste management, and ultimately lead to good health.

Mr Ibrahim, therefore, urged the National and Regional House of Chiefs to cooperate with the ongoing constitutional review committee to ensure the amendments reinstated some power to traditional leaders on environmental protection.

Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, the Paramount Chief of Sefwi Anhwiaso Traditional Area, thanked the government for its efforts towards the development of Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality.
