Koforidua, Nov. 6, GNA – Mr Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Minister of Health, has called on healthcare institutions to uphold professional and ethical standards in service delivery across the country.
Speaking at the 2025 Annual Conference of the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG) in Koforidua, the Minister urged health practitioners not to discriminate against patients, whether in public or private facilities.
He stressed that fairness and patient safety must remain central to healthcare service delivery.
“Treatment of patients with care, dignity and respect has virtually become my signature message since I assumed office as Minister,” he said.
“What we do behind the scenes matters more than what is publicly observed. We must work to eliminate all forms of discrimination.”
Mr Akandoh commended CHAG for its long-standing contribution to Ghana’s health sector, particularly in underserved communities.
“In many of Ghana’s remote communities, CHAG facilities have stood as beacons of compassion and healing,” he noted.
“Delivering over 30 percent of health services nationwide speaks to your remarkable impact. You are not only providers of care; you are custodians of faith, dignity and humanity.”
“Medicine is not only a science – it is also a ministry.”
Mr Akandoh assured CHAG of government’s continued partnership and acknowledged existing challenges such as personnel placement and salary delays.
He said the Ministry was committed to addressing these to improve morale among healthcare workers.
“Clinical procedures may be followed meticulously, but the warm human connection – the essential element of healing – can sometimes be lost,” he said.
“Every patient encounter must be a moment of compassion, dignity and hope, not just a transaction.”
This year’s conference brought together national health leaders, policymakers, and faith-based stakeholders to discuss ethical and value-driven approaches to healthcare.
Held on the theme: “Sustaining Christian Identity, Values, and Ethics in Health Systems Strengthening,” the event also reviewed priorities for the Ministry of Health’s 2026 -2029 Health Sector Medium-Term Development Plan.
Discussions further focused on responsible leadership, financial governance, effective resource management, and sustaining quality healthcare delivery within CHAG institutions.
