Tema, Nov. 28, GNA – The Tema Regional Office of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), has visited the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA)-Tema, in an engagement to explore modalities aimed at promoting domestic tourism within the Tema enclave.

Mr Isaac Asiam, Tema Regional Manager of the GTA, said the visit formed part of a broader familiarisation exercise to strengthen ties with major players within the tourism value chain.

He noted that the GTA and DVLA had enjoyed more than a decade of cooperation, adding that renewed efforts were needed to reinforce the bilateral relationship between the two state institutions.

He explained that the car rental industry remained a critical driver of the tourism sector, making it important for the DVLA to maintain accurate data on vehicles registered for private or commercial operations.

This, Mr Asiam said, would enable the GTA to engage the right partners and ensure safety, compliance, and professionalism within the sector.

He emphasised that proper vehicle classification would also help streamline tourism-related activities and enhance visitor experience.

Mr Lawrence Adom, Tema Regional Manager of the DVLA, described the meeting as a step in the right direction, stressing the need for both institutions to leverage their mandates to better serve the public.

He disclosed that the DVLA had advanced processes to prevent vehicle owners from altering their registration portfolios, noting that some motorists registered vehicles for private use but later turned them to commercial ones without the necessary processes and approvals.

Mr Adom added that the DVLA was rolling out 24-hour services to improve efficiency and convenience, urging the public to take advantage of the extended service window to transact all licensing and registration activities.

He gave the assurance that the DVLA had a lot of packages to offer the public in the coming year, stressing that prospective car owners should not hesitate in contacting or visiting the authority for enquiries and information seeking.
