Accra, Nov. 13, GNA – Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, Minister of Finance, says government is sustaining major investments in national defence infrastructure and military self-reliance to safeguard Ghana’s borders and enhance the welfare of military personnel.

Presenting the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament on Thursday, Dr Ato Forson said the Ministry of Defence had made significant progress under the Northern Border Security Project, which had reached an advanced stage by September 2025.

The project includes the construction of 12 Forward Operating Bases (FOBs), two logistics bases in Wa and Bolgatanga, and a Central Command Centre in Tamale.

He noted that the Ezinlibo Forward Operating Base for the Ghana Navy in the Western Region was 83 per cent complete.

The government would also continue construction works on the 500-bed Afari Military Hospital in the Ashanti Region, which, when completed, would provide specialised healthcare services for both military personnel and civilians.

Looking ahead, Dr Forson said the Ministry of Defence would prioritise self-sufficiency and sustainability in 2026 through initiatives under the Defence Industries Holding Company Limited (DIHOC).

He explained that those initiatives aimed to strengthen food security, improve accommodation for personnel, and reduce dependence on external military supplies.

The budget, he noted, underscores government’s commitment to enhancing national security architecture and ensuring that the Ghana Armed Forces remained well-equipped to protect the country’s territorial integrity.
