Accra, Nov. 12, GNA ā The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has suspended its recruitment exercise in the Greater Accra Region following the stampede that occurred Wednesday morning at the El-Wak Sports Stadium, claiming six lives and injuring 34 others.
A statement issued by the Department of Public Relations, GAF, signed by Captain (GN) Veronica Arhin, the Acting Director-General, expressed deep regret over the tragedy, which occurred during the 2025/2026 recruitment process.
It said the suspension was to allow for additional safety measures to be put in place to ensure a seamless and secure continuation of the exercise.
A Board of Inquiry had been constituted to investigate the circumstances leading to the unfortunate incident, the statement added.
Meanwhile, the GAF said recruitment activities in the remaining 15 regions would proceed as scheduled.
āThe Armed Forces deeply regret any inconvenience this suspension may cause the public, particularly affected applicants,ā it said, assuring that applicants would be informed of the new date for the resumption of the exercise in Greater Accra in due course.
