Istanbul, Nov 24, (dpa/GNA) – There are increasing indications that there may be more cases of poisoning in the Turkish city of Istanbul, following the death of a family from Hamburg there earlier this month.
The DHA news agency reported on Monday that a three-year-old boy died in April, after pest control was carried out in the neighbouring flat. It is believed to involve the same company that carried out pest control work in the Hamburg family’s hotel.
In mid-November, four members of a Hamburg family died. According to a preliminary forensic report, pest control in the room below the family’s room may have caused their deaths, though this has not yet been confirmed.
Food poisoning, which was initially considered as a possible cause of death, is now thought to be less likely.
In the case of the three-year-old in April, the autopsy confirmed poisoning by pesticides, DHA reported. The child initially vomited repeatedly at home, was then taken to hospital and died there in April.
The boy’s father filed a complaint against the pest control company, and the Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation.
