Bolgatanga, Nov. 17, GNA – The United Kingdom (UK) branch of the Bolgatanga, Nabdam, Bongo and Tongo (BONABOTO-UK), has presented two electric monitoring Blood Pressure (BP) apparatus to the Upper East Regional Hospital for improved healthcare delivery.
The advocacy Civil Society Organisation, made up of natives from the four catchment areas in the Region, through its respective branches across the country and beyond, had over the years contributed to the development of the Region across various sectors.
The BP apparatus, valued £3,183, the equivalence of about GH¢46,000, would complement the few BP monitoring machines in the Hospital, and reduce the often long queues in the facility, especially at the vital sign’s tables at the Out-Patient Department.
At a brief ceremony to present the equipment to management of the facility, Mr David Atugiya, a former Secretary of the BONABOTO-UK branch, said the gesture was as a result of contributions from members in the UK, and noted that it was not the first time the branch contributed to healthcare delivery in the facility.
He recalled that, BONABOTO-UK donated brand new incubators to the facility in 2020 saying, “We are in the UK, but we think about our people here. It is part of our social responsibility to give back to where we belong.”
Mr Atugiya indicated that even though they were in the UK, their umbilical cords were in the Region, and that they would continue to support their home Region in any way possible.
Dr Esmond Agurgo Balfour, the Regional Chairman of BONABOTO, stressed the need for staff of the facility to properly maintain the equipment to last long and serve the intended purpose.
He expressed concern that previously donated equipment to aid healthcare delivery in the facility were broken down and appealed to management of the Hospital to ensure donated equipment were properly maintained.
Dr Lawrence Kankpeyong, the Clinical Coordinator of the hospital, who received the apparatus, thanked leadership and members of BONABOTO-UK for the gesture, and called for more support to the facility to improve healthcare delivery.
