29th GJA Awards: Four Ghana News Agency journalists nominated

Accra, Nov. 5, GNA – Four journalists of the Ghana News Agency (GNA) have been nominated for the 29th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Media Awards, slated for Saturday, November 8, at the Manhyia Palace, Kumasi.

They are Messers Albert Oppong Ansah, an Editor, Issifu Dasmani Laary, Eastern Regional Manager, James Amoh Junior, Chief Reporter, and Solomon Gumah, Reporter.

Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday in Accra to announce the nominees, Mr Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, GJA President, said the Awards Committee received a total of 321 entries out of which 38 were shortlisted.

He commended the Committee for doing a diligent job within a limited timeframe, adding that all was set for the grand ceremony.

Key among the prizes are the prestigious GJA/P.A.V. Ansah Journalist of the Year, Best Female Journalist of the Year, Komla Dumor Most Promising Journalist of the Year, and Best Student Journalist of the Year.

The awards ceremony, to be hosted by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will have in attendance President John Dramani Mahama and other national and international dignitaries.

It is on the theme: ā€œSafeguarding Ghana’s Future: The Role of the Media in Promoting Peace, Security and the Fight Against Galamsey.ā€

The Awards Committee is chaired by Mr Gabriel Bosompem, Former Commissioner, National Media Commission and Former Production Manager of TV3 (Media General).

The members are Madam Agnes Boye-Doe, Deputy News Editor, Ghana News Agency; Mr Kingsley Obeng-Kyere, 2012 GJA-PAV Ansah Journalist of the Year and Senior Manager, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Nana Yaa Konadu, Presenter, Peace FM; and Madam Theresa Owusu Ako, Former Head of Radio News, GBC.

The rest are Mr David Andoh, President, Ghana Photojournalists Network and Photojournalist, Multimedia; Alhaji Salifu Abdul Rahaman, Editor, Ghanaian Times, Mr. Samuel Bio, Night Editor, Graphic Communications Group Limited, and Mr Jeorge Wilson Kingston, Executive Secretary, PRINPAG.
