Bleamezado (V/R), October 8, GNA – StarOil Ghana, an indigenous Oil Marketing Company (OMC), has commissioned an ultramodern Artificial Intelligence (AI) centre at Bleamezado in the Anloga Municipality of the Volta Region.
Christened, “Dr. Leonard Yao Kaledzi Centre of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence,” the project which is in partnership with Coral Reef Innovation Africa, is the first of its kind in the Volta and Oti regions.
Valued at about GHC1,500,000, the project which was jointly commissioned by Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister of Education, and Mr. Vincent Kwamitse Kaledzi, Board Chairman of StarOil Ghana, is expected to serve over 2000 learners in and around the Shime area of the Anloga Municipality.


In his address, Mr. Iddrisu commended StarOil Ghana and its partners, stating that “those who make deliberate efforts to support the learning and acquisition of high-demand skills, particularly in Artificial Intelligence in this fast-changing technological world must be appreciated.”
The minister who noted that the project complemented the government’s efforts in advancing innovation, and investment in human capital, revealed that the government intended to construct and commission a new Community Senior High School (SHS) in the Shime area within the next 24 months.
He said the initiative formed part of the government’s plan to ensure equitable access to education, especially for students in remote and underserved areas.
Speakimg at the event, Torgbi Akporhor III; Paramount Chief of Bleamezado, cited the relevance of AI in shaping the future of work, and urged young people in the Shime area to take advantage of the opportunities this centre offered, especially in the field of AI to improve their lives.
He said young people must see technology as a tool for change, adding that the facility aimed at helping them to acquire the right knowledge and direction.
Explaining the rationale behind the project, Mr. Philip Kwame Tieku, the Chief Executive Officer of StarOil Ghana, noted that the project formed part of the company’s corporate social responsibility, and reaffirmed the company’s dedication to advancing education and technology through sustainable partnerships.
He said the pace of change in artificial intelligence was revolutionary, and Ghana’s educational system must adapt to these changes to remain competitive in the global space.


“The youth are the future leaders, and they must be well equipped with the skills and knowledge to shape that future,” he said.
He explained that the centre will also serve as a Community Tech Hub for out-of-school adults who wished to learn AI, indicating, the project was the first of many of such centres that Star Oil Ghana intended to set up across the country.
”These centres will be targeted at the various communities where our company has its footprints,” he said.
For his part, Mr. Richard Anim, CEO of Coral Reef Innovations Africa, expressed his gratitude to Star Oil Limited for the sponsorship and expressed the readiness of his outfit for continued support in delivering subsequent centres
