Nana Kwasi Osew Foundation builds capacity of Akwapim youth

Accra, Oct 6, GNA – The Nana Kwasi Osew Foundation (NKOF), a non-profit organisation focused on youth development and training, has organised a three-day free Technical Skills Training and Certification for some Technical Students from the Akwapim area.

On the theme, “Empowering the next generation of technicians”, the training which was organised in partnership with The Automation Ghana Group (TAGG), at its Automation Hub at Spintex in Accra sought to offer beneficiaries hands-on technical skills, industry exposure, and career-ready knowledge.

The twenty beneficiaries were taken through Eelectrical wiring, Electrical Safety, Building basic distribution boards, and Entrepreneurship.

Explaining the rationale for the training, Mr. Peter Addai Asamoah, Chief Operating Officer of NKOF, said technical education had become central to Ghana’s industrialisation and development agenda, hence the need to train the youth to drive the agenda.

He said besides being the Foundation’s Corporate Social Responsibility, the initiative provided practical skills, exposure to emerging technologies, and certification that enhanced student employability and entrepreneurial potential.

“This is to bridge the gap that reduces their readiness for the job market and limits opportunities for self-employment,” he said.

He expressed appreciation to TAGG for the partnership and “we entreated other corporate organisations and philanthropists to support the Foundation in its quest to train and empower the youth.

On the partnership, Ms. Ubat Daudi, the Head of compliance and sustainability at TAGG, said the initiative aligned with TAGG’S core value of people development, for which reason it partnered NKOF to undertake the training.

She said TAGG’s values which included youth empowerment had been demonstrated through its investments in education, stating that “TAGG remains committed to training the next generation of youths to take after us someday when we are not here.”

“We believe it was a laudable initiative, especially because it was targeted at youth empowerment,” she said.

Some beneficiaries who expressed appreciation for the programme, noted that it would impact their studies and career.

Master Michael Amoh, one of the beneficiaries, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency, said, “When I came here, I had no idea about how to build a distribution box but due to this three-day training, I have been able to build one.”
