KGL Foundation commissions water system for Abura Dunkwa

Accra, Oct. 3, GNA – The KGL Foundation has commissioned a mechanised community water system for Abura Dunkwa in the Central Region following a request from the community.

The initiative comes at a time when parts of the region face water shortages following the shutdown of the Agona Kwanyarko water treatment plant due to illegal mining activities.

The Queenmother of Abura Dunkwa, Nana Akuwa Kwaawa I, appealed to the Foundation on behalf of the town, which has a population of about 50,000.

Access to potable water had been a major challenge for many residents.

Nana Kwaawa said the intervention would relieve women and children of the burden of walking long distances in search of water, and allow them to focus on education and economic activities.

The Chief of Abura Dunkwa, Nana Owusu Koko II, expressed appreciation to the Foundation, and urged government and other organizations to support the community with additional infrastructure, particularly the refurbishment of the town’s hospital.

Mr Samuel Kwesi Afful, an opinion leader, also highlighted the impact of the water situation on health and commended the Foundation for the project.

Mr Nii Ankonu Annorbah Sarpei, The Programmes Manager of KGL Foundation, said the gesture formed part of the Foundation’s commitment to community development.

He said the Foundation had constructed 20 boreholes in various parts of the country this year, in addition to other projects.

Mr Sarpei advised the community to adopt a maintenance culture to ensure sustainability of the water system.

He also announced that the Foundation offers scholarships to needy but brilliant students and encouraged residents to assist eligible children to apply.
