Tel Aviv, Oct 13, (dpa/GNA) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, affirmed his support for the deal with Hamas to end the Gaza war, and heaped praise on US President Donald Trump on Monday, during a special sitting of the Knesset, the Israeli parliament.
Speaking of the US-brokered deal with Hamas to end the two-year war in Gaza, Netanyahu said: “I am committed to this peace.”
Israel’s enemies now “understand that attacking Israel on October 7 was a catastrophic mistake,” he said.
It was Trump’s “unequivocal backing of Israel” that had helped Israel take the necessary steps to end the war, Netanyahu said. He said “peace through strength” was the key principle.
Netanyahu said he intends to award Trump the Israel Prize, one of the country’s highest honours. He would be the first non-Israeli to receive it.
The Knesset session came just hours after the final remaining Israeli hostages were released from Gaza, as part of the US peace deal.
