Beirut, Oct 20, (dpa/GNA) – Fighters from the Houthi militia in Yemen, have left the United Nations compound in the capital Sana’a, according to the UN.
“All fifteen UN international staff are now free to move inside the UN compound in Sana’a, and are in contact with their respective UN entities and families,” a statement from the UN said on Monday.
“The five national staff who had been detained since 18 October within the same UN compound have been released,” it added.
Members of the militia had entered the compound on Saturday.
Yemen has been embroiled in a devastating power struggle since 2014 between government forces, supported by a Saudi Arabia-led alliance, and the Iran-linked Houthi rebels. The Houthis control large areas in the north, including the capital Sana’a.
