Adzorvi (VR), Oct. 4, GNA – The Adzorvi D/A Primary School in the Agotime-Ziope District of the Volta Region is to benefit from the construction of a new three-unit classroom block aimed at addressing long-standing infrastructure challenges at the school.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), MrAlfred Klu Odikro, said this during a working visit to the Adzorvi community, where he disclosed that a sod-cutting ceremony would be held later this month to officially commence the project.

Construction is expected to begin immediately and be completed by December this year.

For several years, pupils in the upper primary classes of the school have been learning in makeshift structures made from bamboo and palm fronds, exposing them to harsh weather conditions and significantly hampering academic work. A recent rainstorm further damaged parts of the structure, worsening the situation.

The condition of the school gained widespread attention after a video report by Xcite TV highlighted the deteriorating learning environment, sparking calls from the public and education advocates for urgent government intervention.

Mr Odikro assured the community of the Assembly’s commitment to addressing infrastructural deficits in the education sector. He stated that the project forms part of the district’s broader efforts to improve educational outcomes by creating safer and more conducive learning spaces for pupils.

“The government recognises the importance of quality education and is taking steps to ensure that children in rural communities such as Adzorvi are not left behind,” he said.

The DCE appealed to community members to support the construction process to ensure its successful and timely completion. He encouraged them to take ownership of the project and contribute to its sustainability.

Mr Felix Wordi, the Assemblyman for the Dzramave Electoral Area, commended the Assembly for its prompt response and pledged the community’s full support to facilitate early completion of the project.

Residents of Adzorvi welcomed the news with joy, expressing hope that the new classroom block would improve pupil retention, reduce absenteeism, and enhance academic performance.

The project is expected to provide a stable and secure environment for teaching and learning, replacing the current temporary shelters and creating better conditions for both teachers and learners.
