Ziope (V/R), Sept. 28, GNA – The Ziope Traditional Council has held its maiden meeting at Ziope in the Agortime-Ziope District of the Volta Region, marking a significant milestone in the traditional governance of the area.

The meeting brought together a 19-member Council under the leadership of Mamaga Norkuawuwo V, the Acting President of the Council and Paramount Queenmother of the Ziope Traditional Area.

Addressing members at the session, Mamaga Norkuawuwo described the gathering as a historic occasion and the beginning of a new chapter for traditional authority.

“Today is a historic day, one that marks the formal beginning of a new chapter in the life of our Traditional Council and, indeed, our traditional area,” she said.

She said the Council was not merely an administrative body, but a custodian of the people’s identity, a pillar of leadership, and a beacon of hope for the present and future generations.

She called on the Council to remain united in purpose and to embrace diversity of thought in tackling developmental challenges, including education, health, youth empowerment, and the preservation of culture.

“Let this Council be a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and progressive action. Let us be bold in addressing the challenges that confront us and be strategic in harnessing the opportunities that lie ahead,” she said.

Mamaga Norkuawuwo urged the members to serve with integrity and dedication, and to honour the sacrifices of their forebears, whose wisdom laid the foundation for the present leadership.

The meeting saw the formation of three key committees to steer the affairs of the Council-Standing Committee, Research Committee and Financial Committee.

In a significant development, four newly gazetted chiefs and queenmothers were sworn into the Council by Mr Nelson Awuku, a Magistrate.

They are: Torgbui Satsi III, the Chief of Adzonkor, Torgbui Mahu IV, Chief of Logonkor, Mama Adzorgenorvi III, Queenmother of Nyekornakpoe, and Mama Duadza III, Queenmother of Abordahi.

The Acting President concluded by invoking the guidance of the ancestors and reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to building a prosperous and united Ziope Traditional Area.
