Tema, Sept. 11, GNA – Mr Courage Makafui Nunekpeku, the Managing Director of the TDC Ghana Limited, has initiated legal action against the New Crusading Guide and three others for an alleged defamatory publication against him.
The writ of summons was issued on September 10, 2025, from an Accra High Court by lawyers of Mr Nunekpeku, naming Kweku Baako Media Limited, the editor-in-chief of the New Crusading Guide, M’IDEAS Group, and Roger A. Agana as the defendants.
The defendants by the writ of summons commanded the defendants to, within eight days after the service of the writ, cause an appearance to be entered for them.
The statement of claim attached to the writ noted that on or about September 01, 2025, the New Crusading Guide published on the front page of its newspaper and website a news item with the defamatory words “TDC BOSS IMPLICATED IN FRESH LAND GRABBING SCANDAL.”
It added that on the same date, M’IDEAS Group and Mr Roger A. Agana republished the said article in its entirety on the newsghana website, adding that the said articles alleged that Mr Nunekpeku has illegally resold a two-plot parcel of land at Community 25 under dubious means.
It averred that the words written of him by defendants meant and were meant to convey the meaning that “he is corrupt and engages in fraudulent land dealing; has misused and abused his official position for personal gains; was guilty of dishonesty, misconduct, and illegality; and is unfit to hold public office or the trust of the public.”
The statement of claim noted that the publications were false and published maliciously, adding that “The Defendants published the same without verifying the truth and with reckless disregard for the Plaintiff’s reputation.”
It added that due to the defamatory publication, the TDC MD has been gravely injured in his personal and professional reputation, exposing him to public scandal, ridicule and contempt, and has suffered considerable distress and embarrassment.
“Unless restrained by this Honourable Court, the Defendants will further publish or cause to be published the said or similar words defamatory of the Plaintiff,” it stated, and prayed the court for an order of perpetual injunction restraining the defendants, their agents, servants or assigns from further publishing the said or similar words defamatory of the plaintiff.
Mr Nunekpeku also claimed against the defendants’ general damages, aggravated and/or exemplary damages, an order directing the defendants to publish with equal prominence an unqualified apology and retraction in the defendants’ newspaper and online portals, as well as costs including solicitors’ fees, and any other order(s) as the court may deem fit.
