Tema, Sept. 23, GNA – Mr Mohammed Judah, the Greater Accra Regional Director of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), has urged Community Police Assistants and Fire Service Assistants in the Tema West Municipality to collaborate to ensure safety in the area.
Mr Judah said it was important for such collaboration, as that was the only way the initiative would succeed in the municipality and its aims be achieved.
He said this when the YEA and the Tema West Municipal Assembly (TWMA) outdoored a total of 75 assistants, comprising 32 community police assistants and 39 fire service assistants.
“I can see there’s no collaboration between the fire assistants and the community police assistants, which is not going to help the municipality because if today they are not exhibiting unity, it will affect us and will go a long way in achieving our purpose as a community because both personnel work hand in hand for the development of the community and the country at large,” he added.
He said they have been given the requisite training, and therefore they must work accordingly by assisting their respective officials in the discharge of their duties and ensuring safety in the municipality.
He further charged them to obey instructions and work with resilience, having in mind that they would be paid with the taxpayers’ money, adding that receiving bad reports on them would affect their chances of getting employed in the sector when there are openings.
Mr Judah hinted that the YEA was in talks with the government to consider recruiting youth employment agency personnel under the police and fire assistance programme who have gone through training for recruitment when appointments are opened.
He stated that the assistantship programme was an agreement between the Ministry of Interior and the youth ministry to train the youth while providing employment for the youth.
He urged the fire assistants to conduct constant sensitisation to community members on fire safety tips while asking the police assistants to gather information on criminal activities from the communities to help in the fight against crime.
Mr Ludwig Teye Totimeh, the Tema West Municipal Chief Executive, reminded the assistants not to usurp the mandate of firefighters and police officers.
