Tamale, Sept 12, GNA – GCB Bank has launched a specialised savings account called the Hajj Account in Tamale designed to help Muslims plan and save towards the annual Hajj pilgrimage.

The creation of the Hajj Account has raised hopes in the Muslim community in Tamale pushing leadership of Islamic groups to commend GCB Bank PLC for the launch meant to help them save towards the pilgrimage.

Leaders of various Muslim sects and mosques in Tamale gave the commendation when they shared their perspectives about the initiative during its launch in Tamale on Thursday, September 11.

Sheikh Abdul Mumin Dalhu, Head of Shia Muslim Community in Northern Region, touched on the significance of Hajj to Muslims, expressing support for the GCB Hajj Account, saying it was a wonderful initiative to help Muslims embark on Hajj.

He urged all Muslims to subscribe to the initiative, saying it represented a good opportunity for them to honour their religious obligation.

He urged all Muslims to be ambassadors of the initiative and educate members in Muslim communities about it so they could patronise it.

Abdul-Rahim Yamusaa, 6th Garrison Chief Imam, said the initiative would make it easy for Muslims to honour their religious obligation, urging the faithful to patronise it and save towards Hajj.

Sheikh Abdul-Salam Ahmed, Northern Regional Chief Imam, prayed for the success of the initiative.

The new offering, which was also launched in Accra on September 05, was tailored to provide convenience and security for prospective pilgrims enabling them to set aside funds over time into a dedicated account.

The Hajj is one of the most profound spiritual journeys for Muslims worldwide, but for many, the financial commitments could make planning a challenge, hence the introduction of the GCB Hajj Account.

Mr Sina Kamagate, Executive Head, Retail Banking Department, GCB Bank PLC, said “The GCB Hajj Account provides a disciplined and structured savings plan with flexible deposit options starting from as little as GHc50.00.”

He added that “Customers enjoy no monthly charges, free e-alerts and e-statements, and the account comes with a free insurance cover for the journey giving prospective pilgrims added peace of mind.”

He said beyond offering a place to save, the GCB Hajj Account reflected the bank’s commitment to providing customer-centric solutions as well as supporting the religious, cultural and financial needs of its diverse customer base.
