Accra, Sept. 3, GNA – MTN Ghana has given 500 Bright Scholarships to students and teachers across the country as part of its commitment to promoting education, empowering young people, and driving national development.

The beneficiaries, comprising 300 tertiary students and 200 teachers, will receive full tuition, accommodation, stipends, and laptops to support their academic journeys during the 2025/2026 academic year.

Mr Stephen Blewett, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, said at the scholarship presentation ceremony that education remained central to transforming lives and nations.

He said the Bright Scholarship was designed not only to remove financial barriers but also to inspire responsibility among beneficiaries.

“Education unlocks opportunities, powers innovation, and transforms entire nations. For many young people, financial challenges often stand in the way of their dreams. The Bright Scholarship helps to break those barriers, and we expect every beneficiary to make the most of this privilege while giving back to society,” Mr Blewett said.

Since its relaunch in 2018, the Bright Scholarship has supported 720 students nationwide, many of whom have excelled academically.

Ten beneficiaries graduated as valedictorians, 520 earned first-class honours and 94 obtained upper-second-class degrees, Mr Blewett said.

“ Some alumni are now making strides in engineering, business, teaching, and community development,” he added.

This year’s awardees were selected among 3,691 applicants, with candidates drawn from 22 public institutions nationwide.

Of the beneficiaries, 170 are pursuing engineering and ICT-related courses, 80 are in sciences, 50 in the humanities and business, while 33 are differently-abled students.

Mrs Adwoa Afriyie Wiafe, the Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer of MTN Ghana, described the initiative as an investment in Ghana’s future.

“We believe that when you empower one student, you impact families, communities, and eventually the nation. The Bright Scholarship reflects MTN’s commitment to giving back to society and nurturing the next generation of leaders,” she said.

MTN Ghana has announced plans to scale up the scholarship programme, targeting 1,500 beneficiaries annually in the coming years, with expanded support for vocational, technical, and teacher training.

The company urged beneficiaries to excel academically and uphold the principle of giving back to society, ensuring that the positive impact of the scholarship extended beyond the individual to communities across Ghana.
