Marfo, Amankwaa win 2025 Homowo Table Tennis Championship

Accra, Sept. 2, GNA- James Marfo and Eva Adom Amankwaa emerged winners of the 2025 Homowo Table Tennis Open championship played at the Hathiramani Hall of the Accra Sports Stadium held last Saturday.  

In the men’s category, Marfo came first, followed by Prince Aklie, whereas Kevin Yarboi and Francis Antwi came third.  

Amankwaa came first in the women’s category, followed by Emerald Borty, while Augustina Baidoo and Joanita Borteye placed third. 

Speaking to the media, Marfo said although it was a tough contest he managed to beat his teammate in the final.  

He said, “I feel so great for winning this year’s Cup. The last time we played the Homowo championship was in 2022, and I was third.” 

“The competition was not as easy as people may think, but I was able to win because of experience. 

Marfo added that it was his dream to represent the country in the Olympics and the Commonwealth Games in the near future. 

He expressed his gratitude to his manager and the fans who travelled from Koforidua to support him. 

Amankwaah, on the other hand, said, “I feel good, but I dedicated this win to Cecelia Frema, our late teammate. I also thank the organisers for reviving the championship.” 

She appealed to individuals, government and corporate entities for support. 

Mr Tetteh Henry, the 1st Vice President of the GATTA, said he was impressed with the performance of the players. 

He also thanked Stanbic Bank, Isaac Amoako, Friends of Lartei, Awura Naa, Micheal Dankwah, Felix Lartey, Oforiwaa, Emmanuel Daitey and the GATT executives for their support.
