Sunyani (Bono), Nov. 03, GNA – Mr Isaac Osei Amponsah, Chief Executive Officer of the WENSAH Foundation, has expressed concern about persistent socio-cultural practices that continue to hinder the holistic growth and development of women.

He noted that despite numerous global and local interventions aimed at advancing the cause of women, many still faced socio-cultural barriers that limited their progress and opportunities.

“Despite several global and local interventions towards women’s advancement, most women were still stuck in some socio-cultural practices that do not support their growth.”

Mr Amponsah, however, encouraged women to remain united, pursue personal and collective growth, contribute meaningfully to national development and positively impact society.

WENSAH is a Sunyani-based non-governmental organisation dedicated to empowering women through advocacy, education and socio-economic support programmes.

Mr Amponsah made the remarks at the opening of the maiden Sunyani Women Summit (SWoS’26), organised by the Foundation in Sunyani.

The summit, held on the theme: “Women Supporting Women,” brought together women from diverse backgrounds to discuss issues affecting their well-being, business growth and social development.

Addressing participants, Mr Amponsah challenged the notion that women were their own enemies, stressing that women shared common aspirations and challenges that required collective action.

“Women are first of all the same before any other social classifications,” he stated.

He explained that the summit was designed to bring women together, empower them and create opportunities for learning, networking and mutual support.

Mr Amponsah emphasised the need for women to better understand one another and strengthen cooperation to enhance their overall well-being and development.

He said the summit sought to move beyond rhetoric by creating a platform for synergy, collaboration and practical solutions to challenges confronting women.

According to him, the WENSAH Foundation envisioned a sustainable business model that would encourage women to support one another in trade, entrepreneurship and business growth.

“In such a situation, wealth is created and shared within the value chain, promoting employment opportunities and improving productivity in building and sustaining peaceful homes,” Mr Amponsah stated.

He urged participants to take advantage of the networking opportunities offered by the summit and build lasting relationships that would support their personal and professional growth.

“Women supporting women is what the summit seeks to establish,” he said.
