Vodza (VR), Sept 9, GNA-The Keta Investment Promotion Centre (KIPC) has extended electricity power to the Vodza Landing Beach, in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region with the aim to support and bring immense relief and renewed hope to the local fishing community.
The initiative was deemed as a timely intervention with other objectives of enhancing safety, protecting investments, and improving efficiency at the beach.
Madam Enyonam Apetorgbor, the Chief Executive Officer of KIPC, disclosed that the extension of electricity to the landing beach was expected to have a significant impact on the community to reduce security risks, facilitate night operations, and strengthen the overall fishing business environment in Vodza.
“This is a necessary need we have identified some time ago and the initiative will also improve the livelihoods of the local fishermen and women who depend on the beach for their daily activities,” she said.
Madam Apetorgbor explained that the extension of electricity to the Vodza Landing Beach was also expected to have economic benefits for the community as well as improve the efficiency of fishing operations, reduce costs, and increase productivity to attract more investments to the area, create more jobs and stimulate economic growth.
She said the KIPC was committed to the development of all communities and the initiative to extend electricity to the Vodza Landing Beach was evidence which demanded support from stakeholders to the leadership that would demonstrate the willingness to work with local communities to improve their livelihoods and promote economic development.
“The project will have a significant social implication for the community. It will improve the safety and security of the fishermen and women; it will reduce the risk of accidents and injuries as well as improve the overall quality of life for the community and provide them with access to basic amenities like electricity.”
Mr. Agbezudor Joshua Korsi, the Chief Fisherman and Mr. Victor Kekeli Dzokoto, the Volta Regional Secretary of the Ghana National Canoe Fishermen Council (Southern Volta Marine), who witnessed the initiative pledged their collaboration with the KIPC and Madam Apetorgbor for the development and progress of various landing beaches along the coast for better economic gain to improve quality life.
They commended KIPC’s leadership, particularly Madam Apetorgbor’s foresight and commitment to community development and urged other individuals and groups of companies to emulate the same for the development of the areas.
The initiative has also demonstrated the role of the KIPC in driving not only big-ticket investment but also community-level interventions that directly improve livelihoods while Madam Apetorgbor was seen as a model for inclusive development that connected investment promotion to real social impact.
Some community fisherfolks and residents including chief fisherman, fish processors, canoe and net owners, and the Assembly Member for Vodza-Adzido who spoke to the Ghana News Agency expressed their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Madam Apetorgbor and the KIPC for the initiative and described the gesture as a demonstration of a total commitment to the well-being and progress of the community.
The people of Vodza further pledged to utilise the project for the intended purpose for the benefit of the community, individuals and the entire municipality to drive and boost a better economy in the fishing industry in the area.
