Bolgatanga, Sept. 08, GNA – Mr. Stephen Bordotsiah, the Bolgatanga Municipal Director of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), has given the Municipal Health Directorate a major facelift.
The entire structure was repainted in the GHS standard green and white colours, fitted with new office logistics and air-conditioners, and enclosed with a newly constructed fence wall, creating a more conducive working environment for staff.
Mr. Bordotsiah, who spearheaded the project through management’s initiative, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the exercise formed part of the Service’s rebranding agenda.
“The rebranding agenda of the GHS started with us, so we renovated the Directorate by adhering to the standard colours and ensuring the work environment is conducive for the team,” he said.
As part of management’s vision to upgrade the Bolgatanga Health Centre into a primary hospital for improved quality service delivery, the operational capacity of the facility’s medical laboratory was also enhanced.
The laboratory was equipped with a haematology analyzer to conduct complete blood count tests — one of the most common and critical diagnostic procedures for anaemia, leukemia, and other blood disorders.
“We have also upgraded the theatre, where caesarean sections are performed. Last month alone, we conducted about 60 deliveries, 16 of which were through caesarean sections,” he disclosed.
According to him, the availability of the theatre had eased pressure on the Regional Hospital, with many residents now preferring the Bolgatanga Health Centre over other facilities.
Mr. Bordotsiah assumed leadership of the Directorate on June 30, 2022, but was reassigned to head the Bawku West District Directorate per a letter dated August 4, 2025, signed by Dr. Braimah Baba Abubakari, Upper East Regional Director of the GHS.
Highlighting his achievements, he cited the completion of the Bolgatanga Health Centre laboratory, which was initiated by his predecessor, and the establishment of similar facilities at the Coronation, Sokabisi, and Nayariga Health Centres, with another under construction at Sumbrungu.
Through the support of the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, Mr. Isaac Adongo, two maternity blocks were also constructed at Kalbeo and Anyukawkaw to advance universal health coverage.
Additionally, the Yepala Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound, constructed in collaboration with the Municipal Assembly, is nearing completion, while those at Zaare and Kulbia are under construction. Proposals have also been made for additional compounds at Sawaba and Warabisi under the President’s initiative to construct two CHPS compounds annually in each district.
Expressing gratitude to the Regional Director and staff for their support, the outgoing Director urged health workers across the Municipality to continue offering professional and dedicated service to the public.
Some staff commended his leadership style and commitment to duty.
“He is firm in his decisions, always insisting on doing the right thing, and he believes in teamwork,” said Madam Alberta Doyo Ackwerh, Senior Midwife at the Daporitindongo CHPS compound.
Mr. Abubakar Sadique Dawda, Senior Staff Nurse at the Bolgatanga Health Centre, added: “The Director transformed the Directorate and freely interacted with us at durbars as if we were on the same level. He always addressed our concerns to improve service delivery. My colleagues and I will surely miss him.”
