Gbledi (V/R), Sept. 08, GNA – Togbega Homatekpor V, the Paramount Chief of Gbledi Traditional Area, has appealed to Volta Regional Minister and stakeholders, to help protect the forest cover of the Afadzato Mountain in the Volta Region.

He stated that the Afadzato Conservation project which began in 1998 to protect the forest cover, had not received the needed support over the years.

Togbega Homatekpor who made the appeal in his address during a working visit by the Volta Regional Minister, cited the rampant illegal chainsaw activities in the area, which could make the mountain bare in some few years to come, if urgent actions were not taken.

He also told the Minister that the Afadzato Senior High Technical School in the area had not seen any developmental project in the last eight years.

Togbega Homatekpor noted that the infrastructure deficits coupled with dilapidated classroom blocks, were affecting students’ enrolment and academic activities.

Further, the absence of a vehicle for official duties of the school continued to negatively affect administrative work.

Aside from the school’s problems, the Chief also called for a face-lift of the health centre  in the area and its washroom facilities.

Mr Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo, the Hohoe Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) assured the people that Gbledi would receive its fair share of the development projects.

He said plans were far advanced to connect the Afadzato Mountain to Wli Waterfalls which would boost the local economy.

Mr James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, said all traditional areas in the Municipality had been taken into consideration for development and that nine roads in the area had been captured under the Urban Roads for face-lift.

Mr Prosper Kumi, the Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) noted that the issues of the Afadzato Senior High Technical School, had come to the notice of the Assembly and the needed support would be provided.

He said plans were also advanced to ensure that the area had potable drinking water.
