Buenos Aires, Sept 29, (dpa/GNA) – Costa Rican authorities said a couple found dead on a property near the city of Quepos, had suffered gunshot wounds and were identified as a 60-year-old German man, and a 57-year-old Austrian woman.
The bodies, discovered buried on a finca near the Pacific coast, were examined in an autopsy that confirmed the woman had three gunshot wounds, and the man one, the Judicial Investigation Department (OIJ) said on Thursday. Police said it is not yet clear whether the shots were the cause of death.
Police responded after a robbery report was filed late Monday. OIJ Director Randall Zúñiga said graves were located the following day with the help of a sniffer dog. Both victims had their hands bound and traces of blood were found inside the house. Investigators believe the couple was murdered during a robbery.
Costa Rica is a popular destination for German tourists, known for its beaches, volcanoes and rainforests. The killings have sparked concerns, about Costa Rica’s image in the Central American country.
