Asokore-Mampong Municipal Assembly to deploy sanitation guards to enforce by-laws

Asokore-Mampong (Ash), Sept. 30, GNA – The Asokore-Mampong Municipal Assembly will soon deploy sanitation guards to help enforce the sanitation by-laws in the various communities. 

Mr. Ben Abdullah Alhassan, the Municipal Chief Executive, who announced this, said it was important for the assembly to ensure strict adherence to the sanitation regulations to promote enhanced environmental cleanliness in all communities. 

Addressing a stakeholders’ meeting on sanitation, the MCE expressed concern over the alarming trend of residents disposing of waste into the Aboabo River, particularly during rainfall. 

He said the Aboabo River, which passed through various communities in the municipality, needed to be protected and preserved, adding that, it was crucial to ensure the preservation of the physical environment space within the municipality. 

The stakeholders’ meeting, aimed at identifying enduring solutions to the pressing sanitation issues prevalent in the area and elicit collaborative support to explore strategies for ameliorating the sanitation concerns in the municipality. 

Additionally, it aimed at addressing community apprehensions arising from neglect and inadequate hygiene and sanitation facilities in the various communities. 

Mr. Alhassan said the assembly would continue to emphasise community engagement and education on environmentally related health issues and best practices, adding that it was important to involve all community members to address the issues. 

He called upon stakeholders and partners to provide logistical support and implement effective sanitation reforms, guiding residents to uphold high standards, while also encouraging them to voluntarily assume the role of community custodians. 

Present at the engagement were assembly members, associations, media representatives, political party delegates, community leaders, and security personnel. 

Others in attendance included notable community figures, chiefs, queen mothers, union leaders, and other distinguished individuals.
