Skilled deliveries to increase in Oti by 80% by end of 2025

Dambai (O/R), Aug 22, GNA- Dr. Kofi Amo-Kodieh, the Oti Regional Health Director, says the directorate is targeting to increase skilled deliveries in the region to 80 per cent by the end of 2025. 

His pledge aims to improve maternal healthcare outcomes and reduce maternal mortality in the region. 

Dr. Amo-Kodieh noted that skilled deliveries in the region have already shown a notable increase, rising to 67. 54 per cent in the first half of the year from 62.69 per cent during the same period in 2024. 

Dr. Amo-Kodieh said this during the Oti Regional Health Directorate 2025 Half Year Performance Review Meeting, with under the theme:  “Strengthening Quality Public Health and Clinical Services for Improved Health Outcomes: The Role of the Health Professional”. 

The director’s target builds on this progress, demonstrating the region’s commitment to providing high-quality maternal care. 

In improving healthcare services, the Regional Director is working to strengthen healthcare services, ensuring that expectant mothers receive the best possible care. 

Dr. Amo-Kodieh’s target is expected to contribute to Improved health outcomes and reduced maternal mortality in the Oti Region. 

In another development, Dr. Amo-Kodieh said the Ghana Health Service is taking proactive steps to enhance patient care and minimize conflicts between healthcare staff and clients. 

During his engagement with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), he revealed that the Director General of the GHS has instructed all facilities to appoint a Public Relations Officer (PRO) 

According to him, the PRO’s will serve as a vital link between patients and healthcare providers, ensuring that patients are well-informed about medical procedures, treatments and hospital policies. 

He explained that GHS will provide training to healthcare staff to cultivate empathy and compassion in their interactions with patients. This initiative he said will bring transparency, understanding and trust between healthcare providers and patients. 

He again emphasized that the GHS aims to foster trust and confidence in the healthcare system, minimize misunderstandings and disputes between staff and clients and provide high-quality healthcare services that meet patient’s needs.
