Kete-Krachi (O/R), Aug. 27, GNA – The Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) in the Oti Region have pledged their unwavering support for the government’s National Apprenticeship Programme, one of the flagship initiatives aimed at reducing unemployment across the country.
At the matriculation ceremony of beneficiaries of the programme in Dambai, the regional capital, the Dean of Oti MDCEs, Mr Prosper Ado, stressed the importance of the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention to ease the unemployment burden on parents and the youth.
“As MDCEs, we are committed to ensuring this program succeeds. We will visit the masters in their shops, engage with the apprentices, and make sure the government’s vision for this initiative is fully realized,” he assured.
In the Oti Region alone, about 50 mastercraft trainers have been trained, with 500 apprentices enrolled to benefit from the scheme.
Mr Ado expressed optimism that the programme would play a major role in equipping the youth with employable skills.
The Dean, also the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Krachi West also urged both masters and apprentices to take the program seriously, cautioning that any apprentice found misbehaving would risk losing the opportunity.
“If you are an apprentice, you must abide by the rules and regulations of your training center. Any misconduct will not be tolerated. Equipment or tools provided will be taken back and reassigned to serious learners who are determined to complete the program,” he cautioned.
On behalf of the MMDCEs, Mr Ado expressed gratitude to the President and the government for extending the opportunity to the Oti Region. He also appealed for more slots in subsequent years to engage more master trainers and apprentices.
He expressed gratitude to the President of the Republic for this opportunity and was hopeful that next year, more masters and apprentices would be included, so that more youth could benefit and move off the streets into meaningful employment.
