MTN working to lead digital transformation of Ghana

 Kumasi Aug. 29, GNA – MTN Ghana says it is working to respond to current trends in technology to strengthen its leadership in the digital transformation of Ghana. 

The company is also building digital platforms to deepen financial inclusion and digital business solutions to speed up Ghana’s development. 

Ms Adwoa Afriyie Wiafe, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer of MTN, who stated this, said as a pan-African company, MTN was committed to developing Africa and in particular Ghana, through digital solutions. 

Speaking at a stakeholders and media engagement in Kumasi, Ms Wiafe pointed out that, MTN was looking at connectivity among businesses, individuals, communities and societies to ensure easy access to digital and technological solutions to improve on their livelihoods. 

She said sustainability was one of the key focus of the MTN 2025 vision, and would work to provide digital solutions that would help sustain businesses and technological advancement of the country. 

Ms Wiafe said the MTN Foundation was establishing AI digital skills academy across the country to train the youth in various digital tools and competencies so as to be able to fit into the technological world. 

The company would this year award scholarships to 300 tertiary students as part of the Bright Scholarship project, adding that 200 teachers would also be trained to improve teaching and learning outcomes in schools. 

It is also working with the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Ghana to pilot the Smart Farm Concept as part of efforts to leverage ICT to boots agricultural production. 

The aim is to entice unemployed youth to venture into agriculture to serve as a source of employment. 

Mr Dickson A. Yam, Technical Manager, Network Systems of MTN, said the company was working to improve network connectivity in every part of the country. 

The company is building 14 new sites in the Ashanti region to expand coverage, while enhancing the capacities of existing sites. 

It also expanding fibre infrastructure in the region, adding that, about $245 million had been spent to improve network expansion and improvement this year. 

Nii Adotey Mingle, General Manger, Northern Sector of MTN, said the company was touching all aspects of socio-economic lives of Ghanaians.
