Accra, Aug. 10, GNA – MTN Ghana has deepened its commitment to bridging the digital divide and empowering young women with an investment of GHS 17.6 million in the National Girls-in-ICT Initiative.
The telecommunications company’s support, which has grown from an initial GHS 10 million in 2021, has so far had a tangible impact on the lives of thousands of young Ghanaians.
A release issued by MTN Ghana said the initiative, a flagship programme of the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, has successfully equipped more than 13,000 girls, aged nine to 15, and 1,300 teachers with crucial digital skills.
The training has been implemented across 11 regions, with participants gaining practical, hands-on experience in areas such as coding, website design, game development, and animation.
Speaking at the recent Volta Region edition of the programme, Mrs Adwoa Wiafe, the Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer at MTN Ghana, highlighted the transformative effect of the investment.
“We are not just investing in words but in action. We want to make sure every Ghanaian child, especially girls, can access hands-on, practical ICT education,” she said.
“The future belongs to those with digital skills. It’s not a luxury anymore, it’s a necessity,”
Mrs. Wiafe underscored the initiative’s alignment with MTN’s broader vision to foster a digitally inclusive Ghana and its core belief that everyone deserved the benefits of a modern, connected life.
The programme, which included the Volta Region event as one of three planned for 2025, has upcoming editions slated for the Upper East and Upper West regions.
It has also seen the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations taking steps to establish a Trust Fund to ensure the initiative’s long-term sustainability and expand its reach.
