Helicopter crash; GAF urges media to be circumspect in reportage

Accra, Aug.13, GNA – The Ghana Armed Forces has cautioned media practitioners to desist from speculative and unsubstantiated reportage concerning the Wednesday, August 6, helicopter crash, which claimed eight lives.

“The attention of the Ghana Armed Forces has been drawn to many speculative and unsubstantiated commentaries regarding the recent Air Force Z-9 Helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region, which claimed all eight lives on board,” it said.

A press release issued by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General, Public Relations Unit of GAF, and copied to the Ghana News Agency said caution must be exercised to mitigate the sorrows of the families.

“For the sake of the bereaved families and loved ones, the Armed Forces urges media practitioners, panelists, social commentators, bloggers and content creators to be circumspect in their reportage as a way of according respect to the memories of the fallen heroes and to mitigate the sorrows of the bereaved families,” the release said.

“The Armed Forces wishes to acknowledge the immense public interest in the accident assuring that painstaking investigations have begun to unravel the cause of the crash.”

The Armed Forces would do everything possible, including collaborating with international agencies, to bring closure to the incident, it noted.

“At this point in time, any purported conclusions based on opinions, perceptions and conjectures will be premature and misleading,” the release said.

“The public is, therefore, advised to be wary of such reportage.”

The GAF expressed gratitude to the Government, institutions and many individuals for their support and extended it condolences to the bereaved families.

“May the souls of our patriots continue to rest in peace,” it said.
