Helicopter Crash: AngloGold Ashanti extends condolences to government, Ghanaians

Kumasi, Aug. 07, GNA – AngloGold Ashanti has extended its deepest condolences to the government and Ghanaians following the tragic helicopter crash that killed eight government officials on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. 

The incident, which occurred in a forest reserve near Brofoyedu Sikaman in the Adansi South District, claimed the lives of Ghana’s Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah and the Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed and six others. 

AngloGold Ashanti in a statement issued by the Public Relations Department and copied to the Ghana News Agency, pledged its full support for ongoing national efforts to respond to the incident. 

It said the company was actively working with authorities on the ground to assist in ongoing recovery operations, including providing logistical and technical support from their nearby Obuasi operations. 

“This tragedy has deeply affected all of us at AngloGold Ashanti. 

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of those impacted by this horrific accident,” Mr Alberto Calderon, AngloGold Ashanti CEO indicated in the statement. 

“We at AngloGold Ashanti stand ready to be of assistance wherever we are required,” the statement added.
