BOSTenergies supports girls with menstrual hygiene products

Accra, June 1, GNA – BOSTenergies has donated menstrual hygiene products to selected schools within its operational areas across the country to support adolescent girls and promote menstrual health.

The sanitary pads, hand sanitisers, and tissue paper among other essential hygiene products, were distributed as part of activities marking this year’s International Menstrual Hygiene Day.

A statement issued by the company and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Monday said the initiative aimed to improve menstrual health awareness, promote dignity and confidence among adolescent girls, and create supportive, period-friendly environments in communities where BOSTenergies operated.

Mr Emmanuel Mettle-Nunoo Jnr, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager of BOSTenergies, said the initiative was inspired by the company’s Managing Director, Mr Afetsi Awoonor, as part of efforts to support the education and well-being of the girl-child.

He said the programme sought to raise awareness about menstrual health, empower girls through education, and ensure that menstruation did not become a barrier to their academic progress.

The initiative was implemented through the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility Volunteer Programme in partnership with BOSTenergies Ladies, the Health Unit and the Human Resource Unit.

Volunteers engaged female students in educational sessions on menstrual hygiene management, personal hygiene and self-esteem as part of the programme.

Mr Mettle-Nunoo said the intervention aligned with President John Dramani Mahama’s Reset Agenda, particularly efforts to support girls’ education through the provision of free sanitary pads to help girls remain in school during their menstrual periods.

Ms Elinda Akosua Agyei, General Manager for Business Support Services at BOSTenergies, said the initiative would positively impact the confidence, health and academic participation of young girls.

Ms Anita Serwaa Octhere Darko, Health Manager of BOSTenergies, underscored the importance of proper menstrual hygiene practices to the girls’ general wellbeing and educated the students on maintaining good personal hygiene during menstruation.

Ms Beatrice Boateng, President of BOSTenergies Ladies, said menstruation should never be a barrier to education.

She encouraged the girls to remain focused on their studies and not to allow their menstrual periods to prevent them from attending school or achieving their goals.

Mrs Evelyn Awo Ofori, Ghana Education Service Director for the Asuogyaman District, expressed appreciation to BOSTenergies for the intervention, describing it as the first and largest initiative of its kind undertaken in the district.

Mr Daniel Obodai, Headmaster of Kpone Presbyterian School, commended the company for its commitment to promoting the welfare and education of the girl-child through the initiative.

The statement said the programme reaffirmed BOSTenergies’ commitment to community development, gender equality, girls’ education, and the promotion of menstrual health and hygiene.

It noted that the initiative would contribute to building a society where every girl could pursue her education with dignity, confidence and equal opportunity.
