A speech read on behalf of Professor Ernest Kofi Davies, the Acting Director General of the Ghana Education Service, commended the organisers of Mezzo Maths House for the brilliant initiatives aimed at promoting academic excellence, particularly in the area of mathematics.

He said the initiative was not just a competition but also a celebration of knowledge, talent and potential.

“Mathematics, as we know, is not merely a subject taught in schools; it is a universal language, a foundational pillar of science, technology, and engineering,” he said.

Prof Davies said a nation that sought to advance in its development, technology and competitiveness must invest in strengthening its mathematics education at all levels.

The Global Education Service, through the National STEM Resource Unit, continues to prioritise mathematics as an essential component of the curriculum, equipping learners with critical thinking, problem-solving and analytical skills.

He commended the contestants for their courage, saying, “Let those experiences inspire you to reach even greater academic heights.”

The Professor acknowledged the efforts of the teachers and school leaders in preparing the students for the competition.

Bishop Dr Peter O.Akoto, Chief Executive Officer of Mezzo Maths House, said the competition was to bring out the mathematical astuteness in the students to work maths with speed and accuracy.

“As students, the competition helps to enhance the photographic memory, and they are able to recollect what they have learnt at any time,” he said.

He underscored the importance of mathematics, saying the subject encompassed all other subjects and helped the nation to grow.
