Accra, Aug. 22, GNA – The GLICO General Insurance has presented insurance benefits and donations totalling GHS2 million to the dependants of the national heroes who perished the August 6 military helicopter crash.
The company, as part of the package, donated an amount of GHS100,000 to the Childrenâs Support Fund set up for the welfare of the children of victims of the crash, and another GHS100,000 to the Ghana Armed Forces.
The insurance benefits were presented to the families of the accident victims at a brief ceremony at the GLICO House in Accra.
Madam Shamima Muslim, the Deputy Government Spokesperson, received the donation to the Childrenâs Support Fund on behalf of the President.
On board the Z-9 helicopter that crashed on August 6, 2025 were Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, the late Minister of Defence; and Alhaji Dr Murtala Mohammed, the late Member of Parliament for Tamale Central and Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology.
Others were Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, the late Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Samuel Sarpong, the late Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress; and Samuel Aboagye, the late Deputy Director-General of National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).
The rest are Squadron Leader Peter Anala of the Ghana Air Force, Flying Officer Twum Ampadu of the Ghana Air Force, and Sergeant Ernest Addo of the Ghana Air Force.

They were on their way to Obuasi for a national assignment on illegal mining when the aircraft crashed at Sikaman in the Adansi Akrofuom District in the Ashanti Region.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Mr Andrew Achampong-Kyei, the Managing Director, GLICO General, said the provision of insurance benefits to the dependants of the victims was to offer stability and a measure of comfort in time of grief.
âWe pray this brings modicum of comfort; your loss is our collective loss,â he said.
Mr Achampong-Kyei said the two Ministers involved in the accident had been given personal accident cover with GLICO General Insurance as part of a pilot project to offer accident cover to Ministers.
He appealed the Government ministries, department, and agencies to make insurance not a luxury but a necessity, and called on Parliament to strengthen enforcement of existing laws to aid compliance.
âThe Gallant Eight remind us that risk is never far away. But they also remind us that foresight is the best gift we can give to those who depend on us,â Mr Achampong-Kyei added.

Mr Edward Forkuo Kyei, the Chief Executive Officer, GLICO Group, said the memory of the eight heroes remained with the nation as a reminder of loyalty, humility, and love for Ghana.
âWe know that you grieve deeply. Yet we stand with you united in spirit and heart, trusting that God Himself will ease the burden of the loss,â he told the families of the victims.
Madam Shamima Muslim, Deputy Government Spokesperson, thanked GLICO General for the donation and expressed gratitude to corporate Ghana for the outpour of love since the President announced the establishment of the Childrenâs Support Fund.
She appealed to the media to be sensitive to the plight of the families affected and respect their privacy in the moments of grief.
