Yeji, (Bono East) Aug. 26, GNA – Pimampim Yaw Kabrese IV, a Member of the Council of State, has called for improved security to stem the growing trend of armed robberies on the Atebubu-Yeji highway in the Bono East Region.

Pimampim Kagbrese IV, also the Paramount Chief of the Yeji Traditional Area in the Pru East District of the Region, said the recurring armed robbery incidents and loss of precious lives and properties required government attention.

He also called on the government to fix the deplorable road network in the region to spur rapid socio-economic growth and development.

Pimampim Kagbrese IV made the call when interacting with Mr Francis Owusu Antwi, the Bono East Regional Minister at Yeji, the Pru East District capital.

The Regional Minister was in the area as part of his five-day working visits in the region.
He said improved police and military presence on the Atebubu-Yeji highway would greatly help stem the repeated armed robbery attacks on passengers and drivers using the stretch.

Pimampim Kabrese IV indicated that bad condition of roads in the area had also slowed down economic activities, urging the government to prioritize the promotion of agriculture.

As the backbone of the economy, he said the people in the region were mostly farmers, saying advancing the agriculture sector would create more job opportunities and improve the annual nation’s food productivity.

Mr Antwi expressed the government’s appreciation to the chiefs and people of the region for voting massively for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Election 2024.
He said the government would also ensure that development challenges in the region were also tackled to better the lives of the people.

Mr Antwi said the government was doing everything possible to strengthen the prevailing peace of the region, saying additional police and military personnel had been deployed to beef up the security of the region.

He asked the various Municipal and District Assemblies to enact and enforce sanitation bye laws to help improve sanitation and waste management in their respective localities.
Mr Unas Owusu, the Bono East Regional Chairman for the NDC, re-affirmed the government commitment to reshape the poor roads in the region.

He said the government’s farmer service centers that would train farmers in the food value chain would also be established, saying the implementation of the Feed Ghana programme was also on course.
The Regional Minister and his entourage later inspected work on the construction of some educational projects at the Senior High Technical School.
