Bodies of Helicopter Crash Victims Brought to Accra

Accra, Aug. 07, GNA – The remains of the helicopter crash victims have been brought to Accra onboard the Ghana Air Force Casa 295 aircraft.

According to a statement issued by the Ghana Armed Forces, signed by Naval Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General, Public Relations Department, the remains, was brought in yesterday, the 6th of August 2025 to the Air Force Base, Accra and have been received by Government functionaries led by Julius Debrah, the Chief of Staff at the Presidency, the Military High Command and well-wishers.

The bodies have been deposited at the 37 Military Hospital in preparation for interment.

All 8 bodies were recovered from the crash site in the general area of Sikaman near Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region.

The crew that perished in the crash were, Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

The passengers were Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence, Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed , Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Alhaji Muniru Mohammed , the Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Dr Samuel Sarpong , Vice Chairman, NDC and Mr. Samuel Aboagye – Former Parliamentary candidate.

Investigations into the incident have commenced to determine the cause of the crash.

Meanwhile, flags at the Ministries of Defence, Environment, Science and Technology and other government ministries, agencies, some corporate organizations and embassies are flying half mast to mourn the departed dignitaries and service men.

The Z9 helicopter took off Wednesday morning at 0912hours from Accra en route to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region but crashed.

Z-9 helicopters are manufactured by Harbin Aircraft Manufacturing Corporation in China.

The Z-9 is a license-built variant of the French Eurocopter AS365 Dauphin.

Variants of Z9 include Z-9B (multi-role), Z-9C (naval version), Z-9W (armed variant)

Major users of Z9 helicopters are People’s Liberation Army Ground Force, Pakistan Naval Air Arm, among others
